The East African Community is a regional intergovernmental organisation of 7 Partner States: The Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania. As a whole, the region is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and a preferred destination for foreign investment.

INVEST IN ONE OF THE FASTEST GROWING ECONOMIES OF THE WORLD
Enjoying some of the world’s highest annual economic growth rates, and by the measure of the amount of infrastructures works, the East African Community (EAC) is one of the world’s fastest-growing regional trade blocks. Trade on the continent is growing exponentially and is bound to grow even faster with the signing of the continent-wide free trade pact. Two East African countries including Rwanda and Tanzania are in the top 10 of fastest growing economies in the world.
As a result foreign investments are rapidly increasing. In 2019, East African Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow increased from $5.7 billion to $11.5 billion in just a year. Investment is going into the technology, manufacturing and services sectors. FDI inflows created 89,877 jobs in 2018 and 211,084 in 2019. Employment increased in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi and South Sudan.

WHY TO INVEST IN EAST AFRICA
According to the Worldbank the EAC region is an attractive destination for both investors and foreign companies due to the several key business reforms it is continuously undertaking. The EAC region has a conducive environment to attract and promote investment and offers many attractive incentives for foreign investors. The infrastructure network of roads, railway, port and air transport has recently undergone extensive development and rehabilitation. These initiatives are positively refelcted in The Rand Merchant Bank’s (RMB) “Where to Invest in Africa” Three of the EAC Partner States are ranked in the top 10, out of the 53 countries ranked.
