ABOUT THE EAC
The East African Community (EAC) is a regional intergovernmental organisation of 7 Partner States: The Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The EAC is home to an estimated 300 million citizens, of which over 22% is urban population. With a land area of 4.8 million square kilometres and a combined Gross Domestic Product of US$ 240 billion (EAC Statistics for 2019), its realisation bears great strategic and geopolitical significance and prospects for the renewed and reinvigorated EAC.

The composition of EAC trade is dominated by agricultural commodities, namely coffee, tobacco, cotton, rice, maize, wheat and tea. However, manufactured goods such as cement, petroleum, textiles, sugar, confectionery, beer, salt fats and oils, steel and steel products, paper, plastics and pharmaceuticals are also traded across the region.

The region has a increasing need for all kinds of products and services to develop, support and strengthen the growing economy. Especially further digitization and innovation helps countries across the region boost their recovery from the pandemic and establish stronger foundations for continued growth and advancement in the coming decades while also improving the overall capabilities and competitiveness of key sectors of the economy.
